Vision Problems - Brain Injury

People in car accidents often experience treatable vision problems

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is an insult to the brain. It can result from a blow to the head, concussion, stroke, or neurological dysfunction. This can produce a diminished or altered state of consciousness and may result in impairments of cognitive abilities, sensory processing, and/or physical function. While the impairments may range from mild to severe, most are amenable to rehabilitation.

Often visual problems resulting from ABI are overlooked during the initial treatment of the injury.

Frequently these problems are hidden and/or neglected, but interfere with the flow and processing of visual information from the eyes to the brain. Symptoms indicating a vision problem include:

When a vision problem is identified, it can be treated with glasses, filters, prism, and in some cases brain based vision rehabilitation. The key is to assess how an individual’s activities of daily living are impacted based off of vision.
